Aygepar was founded at the end of the 1930s on the basis of the cigarette fermentation plant. The village was inhabited by the residents of surrounding villages. Since the 1960s, when the wine, canning and cigarette fermentation plants were built here, the population began to increase. In 1959 the local airport was put into exploitation. The village is bordered directly to the Tovuz region of Azerbaijan, as a result of bombardments residential buildings, the wine factory, and the cannery factory were completely destroyed.
