The village is in the Ararat region, 10 km from the city of Ararat. The village was first mentioned  in written sources in 1805. Previously, it had the names of Shidly, Shidlow, Shitlu, Shutley, Shoudlu, Shoukhni, and Shidl. Was renamed  to Yegenavan in 1991.
