Vayk community was formed as a result of the amendments made to the RA Law on Administrative-Territorial Division of 17 June 2016, including the rural communities of Vayk and Azatek, Arin, Zedia rural communities in Vayots Dzor and its administrative territory covers Horadis rural settlements.
The community center is Vayk.
According to Article 84 (Transitional Provisions) of the RA Law on Local Self-Government, the elections of the local self-governing bodies (community head and councilor) were held on October 2, 2016.
Vayots Dzor had its own territory under different rulers in different eras. It is well-known that in the 11th century before Christ in the Ayaratian (Urartian) kingdom, it was under Yervandouni kings, and entered the Artashesian Kingdom at the end of the 2nd century BC. In different centuries it was in Syunik, (990-991) and Ani kingdom - 12-13 centuries it has falen under the Zakarians rule until the Turkish tribes dominated the property of Orbelian and Proshyan princes. In the pre-Soviet period, since 1850, it was in the Sharur-Daralagyaz province of the Yerevan province state. The Soviet order was established in Vayq in 1921. In 1921-1919, it entered the province of Daralagyaz. In 1930, the province of Daralagyaz was abolished and later its territory was composed of Yeghegnadzor and Azizbekov districts. 1956 By the decree of the Supreme Soviet of the Armenian SSR on October 18, Syllan was renamed Azizbekov.
The area of the former Vayk is bordered by Sisian to the east, to Yeghegnadzor from the west, to the north and north-east from the historical Karabakh, to the south from the Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic.
