On 18 January 2023, the Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, Mathieu Mori, elected last October, held an exchange with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić. 

He reaffirmed his commitment to defend the values of the Organisation at local and regional levels, and recalled the key points of his programme: supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine, strengthening communities and the means of action of elected representatives on the three pillars of the Council of Europe, based on the European Charter of Local Self-Government, promoting the role of the Congress in the architecture of the Council of Europe and the participation of youth.

"The Congress' contribution to the 4th Council of Europe Summit in May 2023 in Reykjavik offers a unique opportunity to highlight the essential role of the territorial dimension in order to make democracy and human rights a tangible reality as close as possible to the citizens," he stressed.

The day before, Mathieu Mori had met the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Bjørn Berge, during the swearing-in ceremony that solemnly marks his assumption of office.
