Webinar: The provisions of European Charter of Local Self-Government were represented

On August 6 during the community leaders, council of elders members, community servants and for other stakeholders discussed the issues about administrative control over the activities of local self-government bodies etc.

The webinar was on the topic of ''European Charter of Local Self-Government and the State of Local Democracy in Armenia''.

The webinar was hosted by the president of Union of Communities of Armenia, Co-chair of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe Emin Yeritsyan.

The online discussion was organized by Union of Communities of Armenia in the framework of  ''Colloboration towards sustainable development of cities - Common Challenges, Common Solutions'' project with financial support of Visegrad Fund.

The objective of the project is to assist the communities in developing staff capacities.

The project's partners are the Association of Polish Cities, Union of Towns and Cities of Slovakia, Hungarian National Association of Local Authorities (TÖOSZ), Rádlo municipality.

At the beginning of the webinar Emin Yeritsyan made a presentation about European Charter of Local Self-Government. During the presentation the issues
related to the sphere of local self-government competences were discussed.

Emin Yeritsyan also answered the questions of the participants.
They referred to the need to make the local government system attractive, to provide communication, to implement some functions of local self-government system online, to the issues of communities' own resources and independence. Concerns were raised about insufficient funding of local self-government bodies and unfair distribution of resources. The webinars are continuous. Union of Communities of Armenia from July 15 organized the webinars on following topics:

-Current legal Issues of local self-government in Armenia

-Current financial issues of local self-government in Armenia,

-European Charter of Local Self-Government and the State of Local Democracy in Armenia,

-COVID-19: legal framework for LSG bodies and practical issues. This is the last webinar from the series of webinars.

The participants of the webinars selected by project by their high activity and initiativeness will have the opportunity to participate in study visit to Poland.
