On the framework of European Week of Regions and Cities (organised by the Commission DG Regio and the Committee of Regions) on October 14 joint Euronest - Corleap Workshop on "Green regions and cities in resilient and sustainable Eastern Partnership economies" was held.

The event was held fully online/remote. The workshop was moderated by MEP Andrius Kubilius, Euronest Co-Chair, and Mr. Constantin Cojocaru, Corleap Co-Chair. The speakers looked into the issue of economic recovery of the Eastern Partnership countries from several angles: green transition, resilience of local communities and sustainable economic growth. 

Thematic sessions were held on the topics such as “Green transition in the EU and EaP region – view from Brussels”, “Sustainable and green recovery – view from EaP cities and regions”.

The issue of how the EU supports the local authorities of the Eastern Partnership countries in terms of sustainable economic development, adaptation and resilience to climate change was also discussed, in particular EC ''Covenant of Mayors-East'' project. The initiative summarizes the results of 10 years of activity. 28 Armenian communities signed the initiative. Many communities have already joined the Covenant's new, more ambitious phase of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy.

The Union of Communities of Armenia is a partner organization of the Covenant. During the online workshop, various experts agreed that systemic approaches are needed in terms of the cities, regions contribution to sustainable development and climate change adaptation.
