  • Community Services ` There are 2 secondary schools, a house of culture, two libraries, five kindergartens, a stadium, a hotel, a polyclinic, a hospital, a communication hub. There is a "Akhtala" sanatorium in the community. Industry is the industry's specialty. The general enterprise is a mining enterprise where polymetallic ore processing is carried out. There are factories in the food industry: bread, dairy products. Approximately 15% of the community land fund is used as land and pasture land, 63% are land plots, 22% are of state significance, which have agricultural significance and are used as arable land (17 hectares) and pastures (41 hectares). 
Akhtala was a townlike settlement until 1995, and after the administrative-territorial reform, it was classified as one of the cities of Armenia. Akhtala village has entered the Lori district of Voghjalu province of Tiflis province and since 1939 it has become a  town-like settlement.
Previously, it had the names Akhdala, Akhtala, Pghndzakhan. The name of copper mining is associated with the Herakl II Georgian king in 1763, who brought Greek miners from Gyumukhanesi who built the Akhtala silver and copper plants and gave the settlement the name of the coppersmith. Occasionally, it was called Araratakhah with respect to silver deposits in Akhtala.
In the vicinity of the city is the Akhtala ancient settlement, which includes the Akhtala monastery. Here were found iron, bronze items, weaponry, ornaments belonging to the 1st millennium BC. The fortress of the 10th century is famous for its ancient antique city, which is now half ruined, the Church of the Apostles and the castle in the west, the Church of the Holy Trinity or the Holy Mother of God, also called Mariam Anna Monastery. In medieval times it was a center of literature, in 1229 the monastery was renovated by Ivane Zakaryan, his son was buried here.
