Artashat is the name of Artashat, the Armenian historical capital. Historical capital, according to our written sources, was founded in BC. During the reign of King Artaxerxes in 189, the name of which was also called Artashat (meaning the joy of Artashes). Artashat has been one of the richest, most beautiful and famous centers in its history, where the temples and monuments of Armenian idols were built, and the goddess Anahit's goddess and golden bust was raised in the center of the city. The first Armenian theater was founded in Artashat. 53, was staged by Euripides' s "Bakeshuhi" tragedy. Historical Artashat has attracted the attention of its enemies during its flourishing period, so it has often been exposed to raiding. The city was preserved to 368-369, after which the ground was destroyed. One of the hills overlooking Artashat is the first Armenian Christian church, Khor Virap, which was founded and built after 301 when Christianity was adopted as a state religion in Armenia. This church, founded by Grigor Lusavorich, the first Armenian Catholicos, is still standing
