Vazashen is remembered as a settlement from ancient times. It is one of the oldest settlements in the province. In ancient times it was called Lalaghegh, Ashghegh, after the establishment of Soviet order until 1970, in Laligyugh, then Vazashen.
The village began to develop especially after 1960, when the horticulture was rapidly developing through the construction of the irrigation network,  due to which the economy of the village had become one of the most advanced economies in the region in a short time. The high quality grape grown here was of great demand in the field of Armenian brandy production.
Being a frontier settlement, during the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict the village gardens remained largely in the fire zone and completely destroyed. Hundreds of other hectares of land are also under the control of Azerbaijani positions.
