The Atcharkut village was founded in 1924 and called so due to the exploitation of the wood sawing plant in the adjacent territory. People from nearby villages have come and settled down near the place which could provide them with employment. In 1932 following the expansion of production, they started building dwelling houses, a school, a hospital, a bakery, a shop, a dining room and other facilities.
In 1964 Sevkar's saw mill was renamed to Acharkut.
The territory of Achardut is rich with historical and architectural constructions, such as Astvatsatsin, Kirants churches, Samson, Deirdzuti, Arakelots monasteries, Sranc bridge, built in the 10-13th century.
