At the invitation of the authorities of Denmark, a delegation from the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, led by Ms Gunn Marit Helgesen (Norway, EPP/CCE), Mr Vladimir Prebilic (Slovenia, SOC/G/PD), Mr Marc Cools (Belgium, ILDG) and Ms Jana Fischerova (Czech Republic, ECR) observed the run of local and regional elections in Denmark which took place on 16 November.

Before election day, the Congress delegation carried out a site visit to a merged municipality, Rudersdal, and met with its Mayor. The delegation held briefings with representatives of the District Election Committee of Copenhagen, the Association of Local Government Denmark (LGDK), the national association of regional authorities (Danish Regions), the Danish delegation to the Congress, as well as representatives from academia, the media and NGOs. Meetings were also planned with representatives of political parties, the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Ministry of the Interior and Housing.
