Armen Galjyan, Head of the Armenian delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, spoke during the 50th anniversary session of the Congress held in Strasbourg, France, addressing democratic processes in Armenia and the upcoming elections.

 

In his remarks, he emphasized that “since the 2018 revolution, elections in Armenia have been free, fair, and transparent,” noting that this achievement serves as an important foundation for the country’s democratic development. He also expressed confidence that “the Armenian people will choose the path of democracy,” reaffirming society’s commitment to free and fair elections.

During his speech, he also highlighted the importance of international cooperation, emphasizing the support of the Council of Europe and European partners in ensuring transparent elections in Armenia. He noted that Armenia will host an observation mission as early as April, as another step toward ensuring open and accountable processes.

Summing up his speech, the head of the delegation stated that Armenia continues to move along the path of peace and democracy and is ready to deepen cooperation with European institutions.

At the 50th anniversary session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Armenia was represented by a renewed delegation reflecting the diversity and experience of the country’s local self-government system. The delegation included Head of Delegation and Yerevan City Council member Armen Galjyan, Martuni Council member Liana Hovhannisyan, Mayor of Kapan Gevorg Parsyan, and Mayor of Tashir Edgar Arshakyan.

The delegation actively participated in the session’s work, presenting Armenia’s positions on issues related to local democracy, electoral processes, and regional development.

The 50th anniversary session of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe serves as an important platform dedicated to discussions on local democracy, security, regional developments, and the impact of new technologies, where Armenia participates actively and with strong engagement.
