The village of Chinchin lies on the foot of Tavush mountain range, on a plateau of 1318 m. The first families moved from the village of Tovuz and settled there in 1876-1877. It was an independent settlement in 1885, and before that it was in the administrative area of Tovuz village as a winter camp.
In 1885 only three family clans lived in the village. In that year the village had 39 residents. Already in 1939, 1147, 1980 As of January 1, 2010, 255 families with 859 inhabitants are engaged mainly in cattle-breeding and crop cultivation.
The village school was founded in 1914 by Melik Kirakosyan.
