Sardarabad fortress was founded in 1819 by the sardar of Yerevan Sardarapat (Persian, general, commander, general commander), mainly used by the ancient fortress of Armavir hill. From here the etymology of the village is explained as the walls of sardines - Sardarapat.
Hassan Khan inhabits the newly built fortress with about 500 houses, mostly craftsmen and merchants, who have migrated from Bayazid and Archesh.
 
St. Astvatsatsin church was built in Sardarapat village in the 19th century. Basilica type church, width is 33 m, length is 17 m, there are two shelters above the holy altar, where Marshal Hovhannes Baghramyan sheltered, when he was wounded in the Sardarapat fight.
