Sustainable Energy Day in Tashir

On July 7 Sustainable energy day was held in Tashir. During the event organized by EU-funded Covenant of Mayors East project and Tashir municipality there was held ''Green Future'' children's drawing contest and exhibition, the performance was represented called ''Energy saving in everyday life'', dance performance, flesh mob and bike ride were also held.

Besides cultural part cooperating with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund (R2E2) energy efficiency educational workshop was held during which the main aims of the Project were represented and also the commitments and activities of the communities.

By the presentations of the experts of UNDP and R2E2 Fund the participants of the workshop got aquanted with street lighting systems and with the main approaches of using modern energy efficient technologies in the buildings and with the technologies of using renewable energy resources to produce energy.

In his welcoming speech the mayor of Tashir Edgar Arshakyan stated that CoM East project will give the opportunity to the community to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20%. He told that the project helps the municipality to prepare and implement Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, improving the security of energy supply, and allowing them to contribute more actively to climate change mitigation.

The national expert Artem Kharazyan stated: “Signing of the Covenant of mayors is important for the community and also the organization of Energy days in communities has the aim to raise awareness of the citizens. For achieving the goals of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan of the communities it is important to solve the problems of energy efficiency and it is important to implement measures to reduce energy consumption”.

EU-funded Covenant of Mayors East project supporting cities signing up to the Covenant of Mayors – a flagship EU initiative to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 30% by 2030. It helps municipalities to prepare and implement Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, improving the security of energy supply, and allowing them to contribute more actively to climate change mitigation.
