On March 11 in Yerevan was held a training for mayors, Council of the Elders members and for the responsible municipal officials. 

The training was held in the framework of the project called “Collaboration towards sustainable development of cities - Common Challenges, Common Solutions” implemented by Union of Communities of Armenia with financial support of Visegrad Fund.

Mr. Piotr Krzysztof GLOWSKI, Mayor of Pila, Senator of the 7^th term, made a presentation on the topic “The role of local government in Poland - Current Tasks and Future Challenges” for Armenian colleagues. For about 40 representatives from different municipalities of Armenia, Council of the Elders members and responsible municipal officials attended the training.

Mr Glowski represented the management system of Pila. Pila city has 73 residents, budget of the city is 880 milion euro. The mayors of Armenian cities asked which is the formula of their success. Mr Glowski answered that they give very high importance to their residents’ voice.

Mayor of Pila stated: “We notice that the residents want to have more power on decision making processes year by year”.

Piotr Glowski assured that they give high importance of lobbying Pila city. They represent what opportunities the city has, they make city attractive for private sector.

During the trainings the participants wandered whether the housing stock manages the city or not, how the budget is managed what kind of cooperation they have with central government.

The project partners are Związek Miast Polskich, Union of Towns and Cities of Slovakia, Települési Önkormányzatok Országos Szövetsége, Rádlo municipality.
