Republic of Moldova: Opening of a Local Democracy Agency in Cimișlia
03.03.2017
“The Congress played a major role in setting up Local Democracy Agencies which have progressively grown into a consolidated network including 11 Agencies in 8 countries,” recalled Dorin Chirtoaca, Congress Vice-President, at the inauguration event on 3 March 2017.
“The opening of this Agency in Cimislia, by the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA), will contribute to the strengthening and development of good local governance in Moldova, in line with the principles laid down in the European Charter of Local Self-Government ratified by the country in 1997,” he stated. He highlighted the Congress activities developed with the Moldovan authorities, in particular the signature of a roadmap for the implementation of the 2012 Congress Recommendation and the co-operation activities implemented in the field with mayors and their associations. “Local Democracy Agencies are important vehicles for participatory democracy at local level, and their experience can be used and applied elsewhere in the country,” he concluded.
