On 27-28 of February the 2-day communication workshop in Minsk has brought together the representatives of the national authorities and NGOs from 6 countries to discuss the effective ways of strengthening communication on new Covenant in the region.

The theme of the seminar became:

-development of stable and green cities

-promotion of energy and climate goals of the EU

-sharing the best communication practices in the Eastern partnership countries.

The discussion focused on the achievements of the Covenant of Mayors program, recent developments in the EU4Energy initiative, and the role of signatory communities in the Covenant. The representatives of the Covenant support organizations presented what they are doing in their countries to promote the Covenant.

Sectoral discussions were also held, focusing on the development of the communication sectors, in particular how to present the Covenant at national level and to organize communication related work.

During the group discussions, the communication experts gained practical skills on how to plan and implement Covenant awareness campaigns. They also shared their experiences and observations.

The participants were able to get acquainted with the latest events and results like Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy #EU4Energy #EU4Climate #EU4Environment.

Union of Communities of Armenia is one of the official supporters of the Covenant of Mayors. 27 communities of Armenia has signed the Covenant. EU-funded Covenant of Mayors East project supporting cities signing up to the Covenant of Mayors – a flagship EU initiative to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 30% by 2030. It helps municipalities to prepare and implement Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, improving the security of energy supply, and allowing them to contribute more actively to climate change mitigation.
